Gift from GVAMP

Well known for being a head honcho over at Tohokingdom forums, GVAMP has asked me to post three templates for e-mails to diffrent companese onto the blog. These templates are mainly for the news that Sony within the next three years may release all their Heisei Godzilla/Mothra titles onto DVD on quality releases along with G2K. Also included is stuff for the Ultraman fans who wants to write to their favorite TV station to have them show their favorite Japanese Super Hero on TV. However, GVAMP asks that you send e-mails to only companese that own multiple stations. Here are the templates:

MESSAGE NO. 1
To Whom It May Concern:

I’ve read recently online that your company is considering reissuing your Godzilla titles from the 1990s series along with the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy. I must say that it’s a wonderful idea because I would love to have proper releases for most of these films. “Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah” and “Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle For Earth” were released in Pan and Scan format on DVD. If you are indeed planning on re-issuing these titles, I would buy the set or individual releases in a heartbeat. Also, something I would like to see on the discs would be the trailers for the films. I’m not expecting deluxe editions of these films but a trailer would be nice, as well as complete prints of the film (no missing credits) and proper English subtitles.

Thank you,

MESSAGE NO. 2
To Whom It May Concern:

Dear ,
I was curious if you had any plans or would be interested in licensing any of the TV shows from the Ultraman TV series. I think it would be a big hit especially if you got the license for some of the older stuff. I know for a fact that I would watch it since I’m a huge fan of that type of show. If you have any plans to license it when could we expect it to air on ? If you don’t have any plans then you should at least consider it.

Thank you,

MESSAGE NO. 3
To Whom It May Concern:

Dear , I was wondering if you would be interested in releasing any thing from the TV shows in the Ultraman series? I know there’s a lot of interest in the older stuff, mainly "Ultraman". I know that Ultraman has been released by BCI and now Millscreek but the thing with those releases are that they aren’t sanctioned by Tsuburaya, the company responsible for creating the character. I won’t bore you with back story but the company had legal issues with another company and they where cleared up recently. I know a lot of fans would buy a reissue of the first set if you worked close with Tsuburaya in releasing it since they have all the original materials for the show (something that wasn’t utilized in the first set). Other possible series you could look into would be "Ultra Q", which was a precursor to "Ultraman". Also consider "Ultraseven" which was the second show in the series. Another good show to release would be "Ultraman Nexus" since it’s very popular with fans. The reason I contacted your label is because I know your label has released many genre titles so I figured you’d be the ones to contact.

Sincerely,

Godzilla 2000's Alternate Ending Card

I was not originaly going to ressurect these pictures, but I thought that since all on the internet which showed this was a video and no pictures, I felt the need. These images can be used by anyone and everyone without paying tribute to the site, though all text is of this blog and needs to be used with permission only. Enjoy!

And yes I got some more stuff to submit to Tohokingdom. Be watching!

Review: G2K JP Version

Just when I thought I had seen it all, I was wrong. I finally saw the Japanese version of my favorite Godzilla film, Godzilla 2000. All I can say is wow for the matter. I had seen the first 18 minutes and part of the final fight scene from the Japanese version before and I am happy that I got to try it out, otherwise what I saw would have kept me in shock. So here is my review of the Japanese version.

The film screams rough cut. I am not going to lie, there are many points in the film that the sound for realism is just lacking and is just dull, unlike the US version. Many things which seemed epic in the US version are not in this version. It is rather weird. Though I do like some of the scenes which were cut out from the US version. All of the deleted kaiju action should have been kept in the US version. I also think that the two scenes with the UFO projecting words onto computer screens should have been kept.

There are some things which I am on the edge about. The first thing is the dialogue. I really think that this film needs to be recut a third time, combining into one package the best of both the JP and US versions. And it would have to be dubbed. Really, I do not know what to think of the JP dialogue. There is so much detail in it which actually helps flesh out the human characters. I am right now actually making of own subtitle script for the film. If only I had a DVD copy of the JP version, no doubt I will be making a home made cut on my computer. Really, the human element can be improved on. Both the US and JP dialogue together would make for some great scenes.

The soundtrack is something I am also on the fence about. I can diffidently see where some think that the soundtrack gets repetitive. Owning the soundtrack, I thought it was kick butt. Though now seeing how it was used, especially since the track Godzilla: Dreaded God is in different places through out the film is just awkward. Plus some of the music is just not as epic as the J. P Robinson pieces. Though I would not be surprised. Hattori also did Spacegodzilla. Though I do love this soundtrack. I am also now more appreciative about the added Ifukube tracks in the US version.

Overall, with the cuts and changes Michael Schlesinger did with the film, I do not agree with 45% of the changes he and his crew made. Though I still love the US version and the changes did enough to actualy let G2K be the only Godzilla film without added scenes with Americans to actualy feel like it is it's own entity. The JP version is just as good, maybe a little deeper but not as fun as the US version.
